Alright so I upgraded to a PNY GTX 660 non ti version and replaced my Vapor-x 7770 factory OC'd card with it. I also got an NZXT Hale82-N 650W psu. My other specs are below:

I7-2600 non K version, 3.4 ghz turboes to 3.8 ghz
8GB DDR3 1333 mhz clocks
1.5 TB HDD

Anyways in skyrim I get noticeably bad drops from 60-55 then back up to 60, it happens every 20-30 seconds and doesn't matter if I'm standing still or moving around, it's noticeable. I'll need more time to test too but it seems like my performance in BF4 has dropped slightly too, but it's noticeable in skyrim the most. If I'm not mistaken shouldn't this card be outperforming the 7770? Thanks.

Edit: I haven't changed any settings on the games either btw, and ran driver sweeper before installing the new gpu and removed all amd stuff.

It's not a huge leap in performance but the 660 is the better card in every way. The frame drops sound like a driver issue or possibly a RAM issue. Do a complete clean re install of drivers and make sure the AMD ones are gone. If that doesn't help then try running with 1 RAM stick at a time. Do a virus scan also as a bunch of background processes can be causing the stutter.

Will do. I'll post back after the drivers are reinstalled and the scans are done, btw the drivers I'm using are the 331.82 drivers.

What is your OS? 331 sounds out of date, i think they are up to 332 now.

Virus scan currently running but uhhh, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

332.21 are the latest drivers for a 660 on win 7 64 so that could easily be the problem so doing a clean re install of your drivers is definitely the first step to go with here. Just make sure all amd software is gone too.

Virus scan came up clean, I completely removed all nvidia and amd drivers with driver sweeper and installed the new 332.21 drivers. Skyrim runs at smooth 60 fps even just standing around. Sometimes it drops to like 51-54 for like a brief half a second then back to 60, but that's only when it seems like it's loading a new cell or something, which I assume is normal. So I'll post back again after testing BF4, thank you again for your help so far.

don't use software to uninstall drivers, go into control panel and uninstall through windows.

Yep I tried today uninstalling the drivers through windows in the control panel, reinstalled them and am now posting results. Games like Arma 2 and BF4 stutter when they drop below 60 fps, and even with vsync off, getting ~90 fps in both, when they drop to 77 or so, it freezes for like a split second. I dunno what honestly could be causing it, I mean it doesn't seem like a normal thing. I've even tried adaptive vsync with triple buffering in the nvidia control panel to no luck.

dropping to 77fps is not an issue, that is still very smooth game play. Could be a memory leak now since the software fix didn't completely help. Try running with only 1 stick of ram at a time.

I'll try with one stick at a time and post back, but it's just the sudden drops that cause the stutter or half a second freezing.

All the things that come to mind are temperature issue, software, RAM or a faulty card.

Tried the ram sticks, playing games with only one stick in each slot, it still happens. Though that could be because I'd only be running 4 gb of ram on a 64 bit system. My temps are as follows when playing BF4: CPU (stock cooler): 65 c, GPU: 52-62 C depending on the map and stuff going on, both of those are within normal temps for the parts, so I dunno.

hmmmm, weird, and just to be clear re installing did help the problem slightly didn't it?

Yeah it did, fixed skyrim for the most part. Maybe I'm just being too picky haha, I know games won't always run at a solid stable 60 fps on a gtx 660, I'll try with triple buffering on since people say it helps vsync and post back, thanks again for your continued help.

well it shouldn't run at high fps all the time, but there shouldn't be a noticeable stoppage of frames. What do you mean by triple buffers?

The option for triple buffer is in the nvidia control panel, so I turned it on from off, and we'll see how things turn out.

If that doesn't work I recommend turning everything off, all buffers, gsync, vsync both in game and in geforce experience, aliasing, etc.

Turned everything off and it still stutters when the frames drop for no reason. It's really noticeable in BF4, and I got 0 stutter with the 7770 I had previously, all I know is the card shouldn't be doing this, maybe I should rma it? :/

If it's that bad for you I'd do it, software and hardware fixes haven't worked.

Going to the geforce forums, just to see what they have to say, but prolly gonna rma it, thanks for the help again!
