Hello,

I have a cable router which provides a wireless connection throughout my house for various devices. The same cable router has an Ethernet cable port running to an AV receiver and an Apple TV. It worked perfectly for 12 Months. Recently my phone company replaced my cable router for a new one (same router later model) and now when the Ethernet cable is plugged in the wireless network drops out. I am really a tech novice and my phone company wont help as they state their job is to only provide a working router and if I need more technical assistance to seek help elsewhere.

Solution
have you tried plugging a laptop into the cable that the apple tv is on to see if it the device or the cable?? check the outlets to see if there no bent wire or pins on them. one issue if the cables were put it when the house was built that someone nailed the wire in the wall. that the newer router is seeing that hit wired.
on the back of there new router are you using the standard Ethernet port that numbered one-four and not the wan port??
have you tried a new cable to rule out a bad cable. have you tried plugging in a laptop or a pc into the cable to see if the router itself is the issue and not the other parts that are plugged in??? check online to see if the router that they gave you has the newest firmware on it to rule out a firmware bug?? if you can can you post the model and firmware of the router your isp gave you so we can google to see if other people have had the same issue with that router.

Thanks for responding, yes I am using the standard Ethernet ports labelled 1 through 4. I have plugged a laptop directly in and it works fine. I cannot change all of the cables as some run through the walls as my house was pre-wired when built. The modem is a NETGEAR CG 3000 - 2STAUS and has the latest firmware (I am not sure how to look it up but when it was installed yesterday they loaded the latest firmware). Another point of interest is when I plug the LAN cable into one of the ports it registers as though a device is connected (blue glow on the LAN lights at front) even though the devices are switched off completely (no power to them)
