H100i temps with i5 4670k

hello i have some issues with the temps of my i5 4670k cooled by a corsair H100i with stock fans... my pc specs are as follow:
CPU: i5 4670k no OC but turbo enabled
MOBO: asus z87 pro
COOLER: H100i with stock fans, mounted on the top as intake
CASE: cooler master N600 mid tower with two XtraFlo fans set to full speed during tests
SOFTWARE USED: prime95 and CoreTemp

so the issue is that while on idle i average 33°C (with room temp of around 22-24°C) and that doesn't seem such a bad temp, during a 3 min run of prime95 on all 4 cores my avg max temp was 94°C with the first core spiking at 99°C!!!
also please note that this happened with any of the H100i fan presets (quiet, balanced and performance) and i got a result of 90°C when the radiator fans were set to 100%!!!

now i am really worried and don't know what to do nor how to explain these results, any help?

thanks in advance

I have a very similar setup. If you haven't already, swap the H100i fans to exhaust, I found that helped a lot.

I also cleaned off the stock thermal paste (it was my first PC build and I fumbled the pump when installing so had to clean off the CPU and pump :pt1cable:) and used arctic MX-4.

CoreTemp is a good prog as it read temps from the CPU (giving you the individual core temps) as opposed to the bios which reads temps from a sensor located NEAR the CPU, not on it.

When stress testing (to validate my OC and test stability) I found using the corsair link and setting fans to Max RPM gave the best cooling.

yes all of the 4 thumbscrews seem well screwed in place to me...

Already done it, nothing happened... i think it is related to the H100i, is it possible?

Should i remove and re-apply the thermal compound?

yes the pump is working (corsair Link software reports around 2200-2300 RPM)
i also want to say that the temps of the CPU are extremely high but the temps of the liquid in the h100i remain low at maximum 30°C after long gaming sessions/ stress tests...

what may be the problem? thermal paste? because i have bought an arctic MX-4 and when it arrives i will remove the old one and use this one... hope the temps will be better by then

now that you told me i remember that when installing it (i was installing it with the case in vertical position) while mounting the thumbscrews and pressing the waterblock my finger slipped and i fumbled it as well lol... do you think that air entered and caused those bad temps?

anyways i have ordered a bunch of new case fans for better airflow which will enable me to use the H100i as top exhaust.

i also ordered 4g of the old good MX-4... let's see what will happen!

thanks to everybody for your help

I'd say that if anything touched the thermal paste on the block (your finger(s), components on the mobo, etc.) then most likely there is some air bubbles. On other CPUs (with direct solder to the lid) it MAY not be such a big deal but these Haswells.... I honestly don't know what the F**K the people at Intel were thinking. For two chip generations now!

I can understand about costs and production times, blah, blah, blah but when it comes to them locking the overclock to the "K" models you'd think they would pay extremely special attention or have a different procedure (like soldering to the lid!). O.K, may rant is over :)

I wouldn't be so quick to call this a air bubble problem. People have been having a ton of issues with the 100i recently including myself. When you look in your corsair link, what is the temperature of the 100i (Not the CPU). I never had any issues with my 100i, but now after 5 months of working awesome (Besides an LED going out) it just decided to stop working and now my idle temp is at 60-70C as if I have no cooling at all. Corsair is also known to have terrible quality control.

A few points I would make here:
1. The OP has checked in Corsair Link to make sure that the pump and fans are working
2. The only issues with the H100i I've been able to find (and experienced one of them myself) were the LEDs not lighting the chosen color (I just leave mine white to match my case intake fans) and the stock fans making horrible rattling/ coil whine sounds (I bought High performance SP120s to correct the problem)
3.I strongly disagree with the statement that Corsair is known to have terrible quality control. That is just not correct.

How exactly is your H100i not working? Is the pump not working? Are the fans not working? If it's only 5 months old why not RMA? Every product manufacturer has some defective units. There is no such thing as a perfect mass-produced product.

It was a thermal paste issue as expected... i have removed the waterblock, cleaned both the IHS and the waterblock accurately with alcohol and then applied some MX-4 thermal paste and temps are now 28°C idle and 55-60°C during prime95 with room temp of around 22°C (i know they not the lowest but i think i had a hot chip... freaking intel's thermal paste).

thank you guys for all the suggestions, very much appreciated :)
