Hello, so I have chose everything for my build except one very important thing, the graphics card, I was going to buy the Gigabyte r9 280x but the more information i find out about it, the more problems i find people to be having, such as the heat and freezing, which has put me of it.

I was reading another thread(nothing to with the 280x) and someone recommended the MSI GTX 760, although the 280x is stronger the GTX 760 has excellent reviews, it's reliable, quiet, keeps cool and it's cheaper.I can also buy another in a years time for SLI

First i'll get the stupid question out the way, if I SLI it so I have a total of 4gb VRAM, if a game needed say 3GB, will it actually be able to use 3gb.(Yes I know very stupid and obvious but rather look stupid than sorry)

Secondly, what would the performance be like?

And thirdly, do you even think this is a good idea?

Also, should I buy a 600W PSU now instead of the 550w if I do go through with it.

Solution
You would need to buy the 4gb versions, but in SLI, yes, the 760 would be able to use 3GB. Around 3GB is where it would top out at because of its 256-bit bus, but 3GB is better than 2! lol

As far as I've noticed, in games that support SLI, the 760 scales very well. And the 760 by itself is able to max out pretty much everything (I have an MSI HAWK 760 myself).

About the PSU though, if you plan on SLI, I would suggest a little bit more power, maybe a 650 80+ bronze.

I personally run 2x EVGA SC 760s in SLI and the cards are great. I can run Crysis 3, Metro Last Light, and BF4 with ultra settings and above 60 fps at 1080p.

I don't think you can just add up the vram when you SLI...I could be wrong here though. In terms of performance, if you do some over clocking you can get some great performance even out of a single card. However, where I think these cards really shine is in 2-way SLI. They can put out similar performance of that of the Titan when overclocked.

600W would give you a little more headroom for overclocking if you are getting the 760s. Just make sure to get an 80+ rated one.

I think im going to go with the 760x, even if I don't SLI, I could just sell it and buy a better card so win-win. Thank-you for the replies, I don't know who to give the solution to though lol

Doesn't matter to me lol as long as you're happy, and you will be with the 760, it's the best value to performance right now, with the AMD cards prices all wonky.
