Hello I am running x-plane in a flight school with the following set up:

TCG-Intel i7 3770 IB Quad-Core Series Workstation
Intel i7-3770 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz LGA1155 Quad-Core CPU
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H LGA-1155 Intel Z77 SLI Intel Motherboard
Western-Digital 1TB WD10EZEX SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive w/64MB Cache
Crucial PC3-10600 DDR3 PC3-1333 @ 16GB (4 X 4GB) DIMM
ASUS 24X DVD/RW DRW-24B1ST SATA DVD "Burner" Drive-Black
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Watt ATX Power Supply Unit
Cooler-Master Elite HAF-912-KKN1Mid-Tower ATX Steel Case-Black
Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System, (64Bit)
Gigabyte GTX460 (Fermi) 1GB PCI-Express 2.0 SLI-Support Video Card
Integrated RealTek AL 8111C Audio
Integrated 10/100/1000 Network Interface Card
LogiTechUSB optical Mouse-Black
LogiTech Standard USB Keyboard-Black
Cooler-Master 120mm LED Case Fan-Blue
3 BenQ GW2450 monitors

The frame/second is very slow. My question is this:

Can I substitute 2 EVGA 04G-P4-2768-KR GeForce GTX 760 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support SC 4GB w/ EVGA ACX Cooler Video Cards for the 2 GTX460's? And is it an easy swap?

Thanks,

Scott

Solution
It would be better if you did switch the two 460s for the single 760 4GB. According to the system requirements, X-Plane can use over 1 GB of VRAM. And it is an easy swap. Disable SLI. Uninstall drivers for 460. Pop in the new 760 and install drivers.
You should get the fastest single card you can for the price (GTX 780), because X-Plane doesn't support SLI, so you're only getting the performance out of a single card, making SLI pointless. Get a 780, or save some money and get a 770. Or save even more and get a single 760, all will be a massive upgrade from the 460 lol.

You'd spend about 500 for 2 of those. I'd buy the GTX780, if you have no budget then the GTX780Ti is the way to go. Also Tom's just posted their Best Graphics Card story for Jan. You may want to check it out on the front page, enjoy...

barto....thanks. I have already purchased an EVGA 04G-P4-2768-KR GeForce GTX 760 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support SC 4GB w/ EVGA ACX Cooler Video Card....I am not what you call computer literate with respect to building one up...I am in the learning mode and like others, trying to spend the least but gaining the most LOL!
