Hi, I have an old laptop: HP Pavillion tx2009au. Here are the specs:

Can I create a small Linux or Unix PC using laptop parts? What parts would I need to purchase to go along with it and what can I salvage from it? Can I have a build similar to a Mini ITX with those small portable cases?

Also, I have a stock CPU cooler from my FX 6300. Can I use the same cooler on the Laptop's processor?

Solution
Best bet is to place laptop on a laptop cooler or create some kind of funnel to force air into the intake on the laptop to keep it cool. But as for useful parts ram/hard drive/cpu (sometimes)/wireless card thats about it. They only work in laptops though except the hard drive.

Yes, no real reason to take a laptop out of one case and put it into another larger case...

Well this particular laptop used to heat up a lot. It was great for its time but I am hoping to have a weekend "project" of creating a portable PC that can be kept in a corner of a room or carried around. Its just a fun project.
I noticed that the RAMs are of smaller size than usual, do they require a special MoBo? I know I can savage RAMs, HDD and probably CPU. Will try to extract GPU too if not soldiered in.

Yeah the hard drive is really the only thing that will work outside of a laptop case. Otherwise you're pretty much SOL if you attempt to get the motherboard and power supply working outside of the case.
