I am having to RMA one of my sticks of ram that I purchased back in March. They came in an 8GB kit (2x4GB) and are the RipJaws X DDR3-1333.

Anyways, I called G.Skill and asked if there is anyway I can do a cross ship because I cannot be with my computer for the three weeks that it will take to complete the shipping back and forth. I am taking online computer courses and have no other way to take the courses as I do not have another computer in my home.

The gentleman told me to just send the faulty one back. When I questioned him on them having to be matched, he said that it will work and not to worry.

Last I knew, when you get a set of two ram sticks together in a package, they are matched. I have done research that points to that as well. So I am under the assumption that they must be matched to work correctly, or at least be compatible.

Is the guy I spoke with correct?

There's nothing fancy about matched modules. They are simply modules that have been tested to work together under certain conditions. At really high speeds (DDR-2400+) this becomes a little bit more important as there's very room for error, but at low speeds it is exceedingly rare for modules that use the same model integrated circuit to fail to work together at standard voltages and timings.
