The Intel 4000 on my buddy's laptop doesn't seem to have really any dedicated RAM. Does that mean he can't play games that require dedicated RAM?

It does have dedicated ram, though it is very low.. i can't remember what it is for that model, but you can look it up online to find out how much dedicated vram it actually has

i think it's 32mb of onboard, and up to 4 gb shared (uses your system ram)

Yes i did...you will be able to play games that require low amounts of vram usage...sorry to be slightly rude, but telling you it has vram, and will use up to 4gb of system ram as vram usually means that it can play games that use video memory

and correction, it is only up to 2gb, not 4gb

so if he has 4gb of system ram installed, as long as the game's combined vram usage and system ram usage is not over 4gb, the only limitation is the power of the integraded graphics on his processor (which is the hd 4000

Yes shared does work as dedicated (though will be ddr3, so slower than current gen discrete video memory
