Approximate Purchase Date: February 1, 2014

Budget Range: 700-800 After Rebates, After Shipping

System Usage: Gaming, Internet browsing, MS-Office-style work

Parts Already on hand, and don’t need to be purchased:
2 Monitors

Graphics Card: Radeon 6670

Parts to Buy:
Tower
Motherboard
CPU
Power Supply

RAM
?anything else I’m forgetting?

Do I need an OS? No, I have one more unused license for Windows 7.

Preferred websites: TigerDirect, NewEgg.com

Location: Chelsea, Michigan

Parts Preferences: I have no brand preferences.

Overclocking: Probably not (not sure how to do that)

SLI or Crossfire: Not sure what this means.

Monitor Resolutions: (1440x900 (primary) 1280x960 (secondary))

Additional Comments/Why I am Upgrading: The boot-up sequence on my current PC is starting to hang in the BIOS. Not a good sign. It’s been about 5 years since I’ve gotten a new computer so I thought it time to do that. Although I’ve replaced nearly every part in it at least once. I’m looking for a computer that can last another 4-5 years, with some potential parts upgrades along the way.
I recently purchased a Sapphire Radeon 6670 for my existing computer, and plan to use it in my newly built computer. If that ends up being the weakest part in the new computer that’s fine, I will likely upgrade that in another year or two anyway. I would like the abilitiy to also upgrade the RAM in the future, so larger sticks of RAM so that there are open slots available are preferred. I also would like a good power supply, as I’ve seen what a bad power supply can do to a computer.

Thank you very much for your replies.

Here you go. Excellent power supply, nice case and an SSD included. And you can overclock the 4670k on this motherboard if you decide to. It could be very useful in a few years when the 4670k becomes relatively slower.

@above the motherboard is not compatible with the cpu -_-

Thank you for showing me that partpicker site, it is really neat. It also made me realize I already have a tower I can use.

Could I get a critic of this system? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2GsMy

I'm pretty unknowledgeable about this stuff, so if I made some major incompatibility mistakes or if I'm missing an opportunity to optimize something I'd appreciate it if you told me so.

Thanks!

Woah, if you're only gaming and browsing the web there's no need for an i7. I recommend the i5-3570k.Then, use the extra money to get a better graphics card, because the 6670 just won't cut it. This should do nicely and fit just inside your budget.

Thank you for the response. I ended up getting these parts, after much debate and advice given. (both here and elsewhere)

I do plan to upgrade the graphics card, but not for another year, most likely. I don't need a kick-azz system all at once. I'm patient enough to do some waiting. Besides, if I add the better graphics card later I'll noticeably see the effect. :)

I suppose :)  and I'm the same way. I'm a bit poor, but I still manage to get a computer, just not all at once.
