Skyrim gets unplayable with win7 updates

I have Win 7 64bit on my laptop which plays Skyrim very well, until I do windows update. After I update windows, the game still runs, but after about 20-30 min, becomes unplayable. I get infinite load screens, or sometimes very bad frame rate and slow game. Skyrim is latest update, and is not hacked etc. I have the game in my win vista 64 pc and do not have this problem. Both systems have 8 gig system mem, 1 gig video mem. Thanks for any tips or ideas.

monitor your free avaliable through task manager maybe you run out of it! also do you have installed any mods or extra packs? they also consume a lot of gpu memory. check through gpu z. skyrim with a lot of mods especialy the hd texture packs may consume more than 1.5gb on max settings

The problem seems to be something in win7 updates. I am well aware of problems of hd mods and skyrim and avoid anything hd. I am playing vanilla skyrim no official dlc.

Windows update updated win7+ video drivers. My gpu is nvidia gt geoforce 650m 1gig. Rolling the update back is the only solution I have found so far. I had not thought of updating nvidia seperately, so might try that.

The new nvidia drivers seem to be working fine after 2 hours. Now to update the rest of windows. The problem seems to be narrowing down to MS Security Essentials. I updated is singly and had the problem almost right away, long/infinite load screens.
