Beginner wanting to downsize case

Hi,

My PC was built by Overclockers and is currently housed in an Anidees AI-6B case. I didn't check the dimensions when I ordered the build and was rather shocked at the size when it arrived, but still, it was fine as I wouldn't have to move it much.

Well my situation has changed and now it would be really handy for me if the computer was way more portable, so I was looking at getting a smaller case and then ran into ATX, Mini-ITX, etc and the limitations on case size. I would ideally like to be using as small a case as possible.

Please bear with me as I am utterly clueless when it comes to this so decided to ask you guys for help after googling only got me so far.

Bits and bobs currently installed:

AMD FX-8350
Gigabyte 970A-dS3P (ATX)
MSI HD 7870 Black Knight
TP-Link TL-WN881ND
8GB Ram
1TD HDD

What do I have to bear in mind when considering changing to a smaller motherboard?

Apologies if I've left out any vital information!

I would recommend downsizing your motherboard as this will open up a lot more choices as far as cases. The most important thing would be to make sure your case is compatible with your GPU.

ITX would be king, except.... nobody makes an ITX board for the FX processors. smallest you can go is mATX (micro ATX), which is 3-slots smaller but opens up a lot more small cases.

my fav mATX case before I decided to go ITX is the Silverstone SG09 (and SG10, same thing but different exterior look)

you MIGHT need to reinstall Windows (or at least get Windows to fix itself) when you change motherboards, though.

What is your budget for a case ? Currently, since you have an ATX board, you must have at least a mid-tower case. It would have plenty of splace for all your components and be easily portable. Not as much as a micro-ATX or mini-ITX case tough, but some mid-tower enclosures have handles and are pretty light.

Take a look at the Corsair Vengeance C70 or the Coolermaster CM Storm Scout.
