Modems don't typically connect to monitors (or vice versa). Please clarify what is connected to what. Thanks.
It's labeled VGA cable and one end is "plugged" into the monitor and the other end into the "tower" (which I thought was called the modem...NO, I'm NOT tech savy!)
I haven't seen everything there is to see so I thought this was something new.
You unscrew the VGA cable from the back of the monitor. If you are donating the cable, unscrew it from your tower too and you're good to go!

The VGA cable connects between the Monitor and the PC Base Unit. The cable is sometimes permanently attached to the monitor and sometimes the cable is a plug on both ends. Either way the plug or plugs are removed simply by pulling it straight out. However somtimes people do use the small thumb screws to make the connection secure. If the lead refuses to pull out with a gentle pull then you will have to unscrew the thumbscrews on either side of the Connector. If they are hard to turn you will likely find there is a slot in the back of them to use with a screwdriver. Here is a pic of a VGA Cable Connector.
The connectors are usually blue with 2 thumb screws to attach. Twist 2 screws counter clockwise to disconnect. They also have a slot for a regular screw driver if they are too tight.
