Why would you purchase a new bios chip? These days, bios updates come specifically from the board manufacturer. You can download everything you need from the ASUS web site. Latest bios, and multiple methods and tools for installation. BTW: I also have that same MB, I also have updated the bios for it using ASUS's tools and I love it. My suggestion is that you return the bios chip you purchased from the vendor and download/install everything from ASUS.

PS: Did you receive the manual with your MB purchase? If not, you can download that as well. If you don't have it I would recommend getting and reading it. It will explain how to reflash your bios.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry to hear that! I took a quick look at the MB manual and don't see any identification in it as to which part is the bios chip. I'm at work right now, and will check my MB when I get home later on. If I can find the chip I will let you know the orientation. I presumed that all modern MBs came with the bios flash surface mounted to the board. It is very strange that your board didn't come from ASUS with it installed...

I assume the chip is an 8 pin dual in line thats to say 4 pins down each side. At one end you will see a cemicircle in the plastic moulding THis marker should be towards the arrow or similar mark on the Motherboard
Warning Do not touch the pins of the chip or any part of the Motherboard with your hands. Ground yourself to get rid of any Static Electricity in your body. If you have a stainless steel sink do the work on the draining board and keep one hand on the sink at all times. Some people may say it is an overkill but take my word for it Static can kill chips so easily. If they are not killed they can be stressed and then perform in peciliar ways

Let us know how you get on
