My current build is:
i5 4570
2 x 4gb ram
1 x MSI 280X
Corsair CX 750M
Could I add another 280x or not.
Also, if i do add another, does it need to be the same MSI branded one, or could it be another brand? (eg saphire)

You should have no problems and brand doesn't matter. They will crossfire just fine.

Corsair CX 750M < I wouldn't with that CX Series power supply.

You should go with 850w. SEASONIC , XFX , Antec.

Will work and it's better to get one that's exactly the same. But why do you want to get a second card?

Although it is the minumum PSU that may handle 2x 280x cards. It should work
Maximum power draw for 280x OC = 347

Maximum load that CX 750M can handle on +12v is 744 (> 2x347)

No Crossfire of R9 280X's with that supply....

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeon_r7_260x_r9_...

System: 200 watts
R9 280X : 250 watts each
Totals about 700 watts...

In practice, my CF 280X system draws 650watts gaming and 700watts gaming if I OC the CPU..... too much load for builder level supply. Get an HX or AX 850 will run fine then...

on paper, it is enough
"AMD R9 280X Crossfire - On your average system the cards require you to have a 750 Watt power supply unit as minimum."

His system doesn't seem overly-complicated and the i5 doesn't draw much juice. He only has 2 DIMMs and a hard drive. I still think that he should be fine. I have an OCZ Z-Series 1000W modular PSU and I'm running twin overclocked HD 7970s (same as R9-280X), an FX-8350, 4 hard drives, an SSD, 4 RAM DIMMs, 3 120mm case fans and a myriad of USB devices. My PSU doesn't even struggle. I think that he should be fine.

So technically I could, but it would be a tight fit?

I would say to try it out. It won't be enough to blow anything up and if you have problems with crashing or freezing, then buy a new PSU. I think it will be fine.

Yes, for example you may have problems at OC

The difference between 1000W and 750W is great
But the difference between your systems is not so big - All other things does not draw a considerable power in comparison with one mid high end GPU

Sorry, I have 2 hdd's, should have specified. I think ill get a larger psu before i do anything else, so then ill have room to upgrade ram, add an ssd and add another gpu :)
