I have a Western Digital 500 GB drive. WD5000BEKT. I recently got a new laptop so I pulled this drive out of my old laptop and decided to use it for external storage. I connected to a Aluratek USB 3.0 Dock and have run diagnostics using WD Data Lifeguard. The drive was able to be quick formatted no problem under Windows 8.1 . When I tried to do a full format it said it was unable to full format the drive. So I ran a quick test using WD Data Lifeguard it failed. I decided to write zero the drive and now would like to know how long it usually takes. WD Data Lifeguard reports an estimated completion time of 20 hours. Has anyone write zero this drive before and if so how long did it take.
