Replace a os drive without a windows disc

So I have an old toshiba laptop and I want I do some maintenance: upgrade ram, CPU and replace the hdd with and ssd. Problem is the windows vista installation disc the laptop came with ( if did at all) is long gone.
My question is can I some replace the hard drive with a new ssd and some how have all my old stuff on it (including windows) without needing an installation disc?

Yes, this is possible. All you need to do is to connect the new SSD via USB using an adapter (with the old hard drive still in the laptop, of course), and use a disk cloning utility. Here are some examples: http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-so...
