2x4gb or 1x8gb

im struggling to decide whether i should pay the extra for the crucial 2x4gb to utilise dual channel
or get the cheaper corsair 1x8gb

side note: i do plan to oc my cpu if that makes any difference, ill be using a cm 212 evo for a cpu cooler, if anyone wishs to make recommendations for other ram

no brainer. always run dual channel. only get the 8gb stick if you intend to get a 2nd one.

It will make little difference but I'd go for 2x4 for the best performance.

yes im sure. do not run single channel mode.

they are both top notch brands for memory.

Maybe in benchmarks a 10-15% increase but you would not notice the change in real life applications.

In synthetic benchmarks, you would not see a 10-15% improvement in real life applications such as gaming and rendering.

Your looking at 1333/9 1x8GB and 1600/11 2x4GB so it's near a tossup.....the 1600 have wider bandwidth and would be in dual channel yet a very slow CL of 9, so it's about a toss - would look for a 2x4GB 1600/9 - 1600/11 equates to about a 1333/10

there is absolutely no reason to run in single channel. real world... benchmarks... dude... you want the most you can get

fact is, you will get more fps in games. that is realworld. say you are shooting for a vsync of 60 fps. your machine in dual channel mode is dipping to a low of 63 fps. you are good. all is right. OH NO, you are running single channel mode and only seeing 58 fps, you are ducking under vsync, oh look... a screen tear.

i dont understand why this is being debated... real world... benchmarks... whatever. more performance is more perfomance. you want every single little bit you can get, especially when the price difference is negligible.

I'm not debating dual channel is not better, it is, that is what i said in my first post. I was mearly stating it is not a choice to get hung up on as the difference would be minimal.

my real problem here is that one is in single channel and lower frequency but has a better latency where as the other is dual channel has better frequency but much worse latency

ANY DRAM will work with your cooler - the fan(s) on the EVO are height adjustable, just unclip it from the fins and raise it a quarter inch or whatever is needed, I run 32 GB of Ripjaws X on my SB and 32 Of GSkill Tridents on my IB under a 212 EVO and no loss of cooling the IB is at 4.7 (3570K) and the SB is at 4.8 (2500K)

All benchmarks that have been done showed that there is less than 1-2% better performance in gaming.Feel free to google up
