On a 900p monitor, you'll be looking at medium-high for a lot of the newer games, and high-ultra on some lighter/older games.

Only having 1GB of vram will take away the ability to run games on the higher end of settings pretty quick, a lot already use more than 1gb. But if you're fine with medium-high, probably a good while :)

So what kind of PSU would you recommend (not going above, at most, £50 - would prefer around £30)?

PSU is this one when bought separately: http://www.ebuyer.com/253900-coolermaster-elite-power-500w-psu-rs500-psapj3-it

How badly will the video card affect the performance (I'm fine playing on medium settings)?

What about this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-7770-Radeon-Graphics-Card/dp/B0081LDXW2/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1389820660&sr=1-2 or this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-HD7790-Retail-PCI-E-Graphics/dp/B00C981M5I/ref=sr_1_23?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1389820660&sr=1-23

What will be plenty fine???

If you can push your budget to the 7790, it will be better than the 7770.

About the power supply, since 50 pounds is your max, the Corsair CX 500 is the lowest I would go to remain acceptable. Here: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cx500m

Would it be all right if I cheap out on the case then (if the cooling is fine and components fit)?
