install os drive on another computer

my computer died. when i get a new one can i just install tthe old HD as 2nd drive and take the files off. not the software or settings . is there any problem doing this?? should i go into theBIOS and change something??

Should be no problem. Just make sure that is NOT in the boot order in the BIOS.

So, you'd like to wipe the old HDD and use it? Is it IDE or SATA? If SATA, yes, you can use it. If IDE, then you'd need an adapter.
