I've read a few of the descriptions of the Cherry switches and I'm a bit confused. What exactly does "clicky" mean? Is it a sound or a feel?

With the only one I've been able to try, I liked the "feel" of it, but the sound it make would drive me nuts. Are they all so loud?

Solution
Well, both actually depending on the switch.

Blues are clicky in that there is a noticeable "bump" where the actuation point (where the keystroke registers) is, they also make an audible click on the actuation point.
Browns feel the same as blues but no audible click on the actuation.
Red and Black dont click at all.
Though dont think that a Brown, Red or Black keyswitch are silent, they still make a noise when you bottom out (fully push down the key).

They all have differing amounts of force needed to push down the key, but in a nutshell thats how they keyswitches work in comparison to each other.

Thanks manofchalk, that's exactly what I needed to know.

@Killbot, I had read the overclockers guide and another one somewhere else. They all described the Blues as "clicky" but I could never figure out what they meant.

What you are referring too is the Cherry MX blue mechanical switch. The rest (Red, Black, Brown) are about as silent as regular membrane boards (or as loud). Cherry MX blue is clicky at the cost of noise. Either you will like it for the feedback or hate it for being annoying. More info about the switches by manofchalk
