I'm planning on buying 16gb of ram (2x8gb) and I had my eyes on the G.Skill Trident X since it has a 7-8-8-24 timing. Trident X

However, for some reason a lot of people have been telling me to get the Corsair Dominator Platinum. Dominator

In my perspective they are both 1600 PC3 12800 and come from reputable companies... the only difference is the Corsair has a 9-9-9-24 timing and some fancy cooling system.

Yet reviews and peers saying it's the best performance ram. Can anyone explain how the Corsair is better or not than the Trident X?

An awful lot of people like the lights, but basically that's about it as far as I've see, they don't perform better than other 1600/9 sets I've worked with and actual had little to No OC headroom, took 1.6 to run at 1866, where the Tridents easily step up to 1866 at 1.5, it's also a ridiculous price to pay fro entry level 1600/9 sticks where the Tris are reasonably priced for high performance 1600 DRAM

Thank you for your response. Personally i'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that the ram with a Cas latency of 7 cost $169 and the Dominator cost $239. $70 more for an LED seems excessive so I assumed there was a performance gap that justified the extra cost.

That (the lights) plus Corsair is newer to the high freq market, they just brought out a 32GB set of 2400 a few months back, where GSkill has had a few 2400 32GB sets for over a year and a half now - so more expensive getting them figured out

Thanks, i think sacrificing lights for a lower latency is a much better choice.

I have the Corsair Dominator Platinum. Exact model number is listed in my "signature". I do have to admit, it's expensive, but given the chance to go back, I'd still buy it. Besides the price, I can't say anything bad about the RAM. One thing that I do love about it is the fact that every single stick of Dominator Platinum RAM is hand screened. How many times I've gotten brand new RAM, installed it, ran MemTest on it and found errors. Not the case for the Corsair. It was flawless. And another thing is the "bling" factor. LOL It's like wearing gold or diamonds. Is it practical? Not in a million years. But man it looks good. :D
