Can I proceed with this upgrade? All details are below with Additional Comments / Info. I think I need to go into BIOS, set the remaining two memory slots for 1.5V, disable any automatic configurations, power off, install memory, and hope the new memory didn't get fried when I first tried it..

Thanks for your help,.

Mike

Additional Comments / Info: The droids at ASUS (snort) had me replace the memory and CPU before they'd RMA the MoBo and the damned MoBo WAS the problem. They even had me return the MoBo to the wrong warehouse - delay. The DOA original MoBo didn't even beep out a POST error code. I had the G.Skill memory installed. When I replaced the memory to humor ASUS, I bought the AMD Memory (see above under "Currently Installed") since it was one of the few things in the MoBo QVL list that was available - not much available 16 GB solutions. The G.Skill memory that I have was not in the QVL, but I think it was here at Tom's Hardware that I saw a user who had the same ASUS MoBo and G.Skill memory working. Maybe it was the overclocker's site. When I put the system together With the G.Skill memory, BIOS showed that it was giving it 1.65V -- BIOS "thinks" it's 1.65V cause it read the G.Skill tag in firmware and made an assumption. I set it to 1.5V. But the MoBo was dead and I never tried the G.Skill memory again. The AMD memory currently installed has been obsoleted and it's sold out at NewEgg. What joy!

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Because I can ;) I need more memory, especially for running Virtual Guest OSs in KVM and QEMU. Also, Firefox sucks (memory) when I open 20,000 tabs. But 20 tabs per in 5 Chrome windows isn't too bad, except the tabs don't scroll and they're kinda tiny, so you can't read the page titles.

Thanks again.
