Hi guys,

So Basically I swapped my gtx 580 for an r9 290 in my system and I am struggling to get it to work.

I removed nvidia drivers before seating the new card and I am struggling with installing the new card. I have the card running as I have output on the graphics card and the fan is spinning so Im sure its correctly seated. When I try to find the graphics card it is not being discovered on device manager and it seems to be only picking up the onboard graphics.

I have tried installing AMD drivers but when I do my 1920x1080p resolution is maintained, however I now have a black border all the way around my screen and the graphics card is still not recognised. Please help!!

Also if this in the wrong thread, Im sorry :p

Edit: Selecting AMD auto detect doesnt detect card.

Installing the amd r9 200 series drivers puts a 200 series display adaptor on device manager but still get black borders all the way around screen and is now prone to crashing. Having to use my laptop now as anything graphically intensive seems to crash my pc.

Try resetting your bios setting for once

Edit: Make sure you are providing adequate amount of power to your gpu. For r9 290 minimum psu is 650watts.

Already done that I have done the default on the bios and removed the battery to reset it that way too I got an 850w gold psu which supports sli so I know it's good enough and got enough Amps on the rail

Your graphics card require 1 6-pin plug and 1 8-pin connectors?
Just try replacing those both connectors with other extra connector if you have in your supply.

EDIT: Did you disable the gtx 580 card in device manager before removing? If not, try to do it :D

you should be inserting the graphics card and then try. Also, disable the on-board graphics by moving a jumper on the mobo if you have one it.
Whats the brand of your card?
EDIT: OR try this: Open the Control Panel and click Add Hardware. From there, a wizard will help you install the new drivers from the CD that came bundled with your new card.
if that doesnt work, try checking your gpu by inserting in PCIE X8 slot.
Pls provide information on what's in your build :D

I think I fixed it, I had to reinstall windows 8.1 it now comes up with amd r9 290 series on device manager rather than the generalised 200 series previously. So far so good will keep updated.

try checking your gpu buddy with some other motherboard. That will help you to identify the problem you are facing.

I dont have a spare mobo to test I was considering just buying a new mobo but AMD doesn't have any boards with PCI 3.0 support yet.

I have been doing loads of research into this its even the 290x thats got problems too
