As the title says. Intel Core i5 3550 Boxed 3.3GHz 3rd Generation or AMD FX-6300?

I'm building a gaming rig wondering which would be better for me. The i5 is a quad core 3.3 ghz while the FX-6300 is a 6 core 3.5 ghz.

Thanks everyone.

Solution
the i5 3550 is better than amd fx 6300 .but if you are going to overclock, then the amd fx6300 is much better. i would go with the i5.
single core perfomance-intel
all cores performance-intel(slightly better)
overclocking-amd

The i5 is a real quad core CPU while the FX6300 is kind of a semi-hex core CPU; 6 Cores using 3 modules, not really a pure hex core. Intel's single core performance is much better than AMD's and whilst having lower clock speeds, uses speed more efficiently resulting in better performance. However, the FX6300 will defeat the I5 in some multi-threaded applications, but not in gaming. I've had an FX6300, tried it in AC4 and Skyrim with mediocre results. My recommendation, the Intel i5.

For the same price get the I5 for sure. But everywhere I have looked the i5 is 100 bucks higher. The 6300 can be overclocked to 4.4G very easily with a cheap air cooler. Then you can use the extra 100 bucks towards your video card.
