I bought a notebook. A Samsung series 3 np370r4v. i5-3230M, 4 gb RAM, AMD Radeon HD 8750M.

So I wanted to check everything out. I did plently of tests and benchmarks. While running realtemp I noticed the cpu would get pretty hot while playing games. far cry and tomb raider to be exact. it would start off in the upper 80s and spike to 91c. After 30-60 minutes it would be in the low 90s.

Other threads say this is pretty bad. Another TH member said I might want to reset the heatsink with some good thermal paste. I went to do that and found a security sticker covering a screw.

I suspect something it wrong with the cooling. Would I be out of line if I exchanged it for another one?

I do live in a hot climate (thailand) but even running this notebook in 24c room with a cooling pad it still hits these temps.

note worthy things:
-everthing is new so no dust in the fan.
-when watching realtemp it has 30-45% load and the cpu
-while doing a 3dmark11 and 06 bench it says my max turbo speed is 1.1 instead of 3.1

ok so it's nothing to worry about? I have read thread after thread that CPU that reaches the 90s will most certainly be a short life for the processor.

It is on a cooling pad. I hit these temps regardless. Not many vents on the bottom only a few for the ram.

no AC and room is 27c w/o cooling pad OR having AC on, room is 24c, w/cooling pad. If I take off the bottom ram/hdd panel it goes down about 5c.

Another thing I noticed was in tomb raider settings normal. load was 40% and low settings load was 70% but same temps. just a guess here but does that mean it is throttling the load down to handle the higher settings?

you are correct. I have the intel HD 4000 and amd 8750m. they are set to switch when gaming. i am using realtemp to read the cpu only.

I dont think real temp can read gpu temps.
