I am planning to buy core i5 3470 processor for my new pc. is there any amd processor to consider against this one, within the same price margin ? No overclocking plans. I will buy a discrete graphics card also (radeon hd 7770) .

Probably the FX-8150

I went with the 8350 and I have no complaints. The intels will give better single core performance, but 8 cores has its advantages elsewhere. Some games, like BF4, like to use all 8 cores.

But the 8350 is at a higher price and it is overclockable. i am not to do any overclocking. what about 8150? i want to play games at decent settings, and work with cad/cam softwares. does the 8150 + mobo makes much difference in price ?
thanx for ur replies guys

For CAD work, the FX-8150 is a little better than the i5-3470.

As for prices, the i5-3470 is $190 at Newegg. You might as well get a $200 FX-8350 - it's a little better than the FX-8150. Newegg is out of the FX-8150. Good motherboards are typically available for around $100 for either CPU, it depends on the features you want.

AMD motherboards are usually a little cheaper, you can use the price difference to pick up 1866 Mhz DDR3 RAM.

Getting an FX 8350 is pointless with the FX 8320 available for $50 less.

It's January 2014, so why not go for the Haswell i5-4440 which is about the equivalent of the i5-3470? Why still consider the previous generation CPU?

I personally probably wouldn't consider a locked i5 for myself ever. Only locked Intel chip I have any interest in is the Xeon 1230 v*.
