I have an i5 670 cpu which support memory up to 1333...does that mean I cant overclock to 1600? My board has this option and I was going to bump it up as well as a slight overclock on the cpu.

But if bumping it up to 1600 makes it incompatible, then I wont do it.

My motherboard is capable, but the cpu only supports to 1333.

Thank you.

That is likely a good guideline for that processor, but the only physical restriction that I am aware of is the voltage tolerances.

I do know that memory can be safely over locked without causing damage. The worst case is that the RAM modules you have do not work at the higher speed and you have to reduce the over clock back to default settings.

The CPU doesn't constrain what memory is compatible, the motherboard does.
Read the motherboard's manual to determine what memory specifications are compatible.

If your motherboard supports memory over locking, then you may be successful at attempting to overclock your 1333mhz ram.

It says here that this particular processor is to be paired with 1066/1333

the memory controller on the cpu is to be ignored? The board can handle up to like 1600 I believe
