I am stuck in choosing the Graphic Card - AMD R9 290 Or GTX 770 ? Being a Nvidia fan, I want to go for GTX 770, but as per performance, do AMD R9 290 outsmart GTX 770 ?

Thanks

R9 290 outperforms GTX 770 by 16.3% but GTX 770 is an awesome gpu .GTX 770 is money wise choice.

As of now, the r9 290(performance per dollar) is terrible right now. I too wanted the r9 290 but for $500+ ill pass.

Why are you comparing the r9 290 with the GTX 770? The r9 290 and the GTX 780 are the same price... Get a GTX 780.

R9 290x & GTX 780 are of same price, but R9 290 is just a bit more costlier than GTX 770.

For the money, the Gtx 770 is better. You can over clock it too if you want.I have my 760 oc faster than a 770. But if you have the money to spend, I would get a 780 instead of a 290.

290 outperforms or meets the 780 in most games. If you live around a fry's or microcenter, you can still score then for about 400 if you catch one in stock. The 280x is the card most comparable to a 770, not the 290.

If you can find the 290 for the retail price of around 400 bucks, get that. if not, you have to decide if you can pay extra for the 290 or the 780, depending on what features and brand you find most interesting, or if you want to take the step down in performance and go with a 770.

As I know it is AMD R9 290x, which is comparable to GTX 780, in both price & performance.

But, I am asking about AMD R9 290, which is closer to the price of GTX 770. Is it a wiser choice to go for AMD R9 290 over GTX 770 ?

I had a similar dilemma recently when I couldn't choose between a 290 or a Gtx 780. I found a great deal on a 290 and that sealed the deal.

I honestly have not looked back! No issues at all and the performance is sick! I play Battlefield 4 on ultra at 100 fps (and is only going to increase when mantle is released!).

I've always used Nvidia before and was a little worried about the switch over.... My advice, don't be! If you can afford the extra for the 290 over the gtx770, go for it!

290x>Titan=290>780>280x>770>760

Price/Performance the 770 is probably the sweet spot until the R9's go back down in price. Like stated above, you may get lucky and find one tucked away somewhere.
If you are playing 1080p, a 770 or 280x will play all games very well and max settings for the most part.

not sure when you last looked at prices... but the GTX 780 is ~$500 the r9 290x is ~$630 and the r9 290 is ~$500.

GTX 780's : http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...

r9 290 : http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...

r9 290x : http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...

And if you are looking at an aftermarket cooler (and you will want one for the 290/290x... add another $80 to those prices!)
High end AMD cards are a very bad deal right now... don't get a reference cooler r9 290, you will be better off getting an after market cooler gtx 780 for the same price.

In my country, the prices are almost same for both the cards. Although R9 290 is just a little bit more costlier than GTX 770.

Thatswhy I am confused, & want to know where should I go ahead, & choose the best Graphic Card for Gaming out of these two as the prices aren't differ much ?

Thanks :)

The Titan is a nice card no doubt, but only in a few extreme cases does it actually out perform the 290X consistently. Since the R9 290X can be had for $500-600 right now (and dropping), and the Nvidia Titan is $1100 or more. I would say the R9 290X is the card to have at this time. That could change if Nvidia shifts their pricing, or the new cards hit the market, but Today, the R9 290X is the beast to have, if you want performance and price.

And if you lets say have a option to take from a store, titan or 290x which one would you took?
But why titan?Lets compare 780ti,which is cheaper then titan, and almost in price range as 290x.
It is faster in most cases. Also use less power, make less heat, and less noise.

A 780ti is going for $700-800 right now, so it costs about 50% more than a 290x . The 290x is $500-600. If you can show me where to buy a 780ti right now for $500, I'll buy two this very moment.

Can you explain me this this?
" A 780ti is going for $700-800 right now, so it costs about 50% more than a 290x . The 290x is $500-600. "
how is 700$,for 50% more then 500$ or 600$?

Msi 780ti oc cost exactly 700$ on newweg and amazon.Msi is really good 780ti,and I think one of most popular.
Sapphire 290X cost 600$-620$ on amazon.

So 780ti is faster and better, but is it worth the extra money? That depends. My opinion is yes, because I just like nVidia more,I used to like amd, because they are little bit cheaper, but Nvidia has better graphic cards.
If you are on budget, sure go ahead and buy 290x,but I don't think that if you want to buy this high end gpu, that you don't have 100$ more.
Also I would never take 290x,it is to hot,and to loud,I would go with 290,or gtx780.

Long story short:
NvidiaGtx 780ti cost 100$ more then amd 290x,but it is faster, make less noise, has lower temperature, and also you can overclock it more.
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/01/13/asus_r9_290x_...

So yea,I think that anybody who is looking for this much expensive card,is not really on budget, and can afford GTX780ti,which is better in perfomance.

I like both, both make good cards. Nvidia or ATI. The next step you look at is the cooling solution - not all cooling solutions are created equal. Using shopbot.ca, which compares across multiple sites. I can find a MSI GTX 780 Ti GAMING 3GB (2X cooler) for $709. Using the same site, I can find a Gigabyte R9 290X 4GB OC (windforce) can be had on Canadian Ncix right now for $470. $470 X 1.5 = $705
