i recently built a computer and when i power it on everything turns on and all fans spin but when i turn the monitor on it says no signal for a second then goes black, whats the problem.

If you have a graphics card installed make sure you've plugged your VGA/DVI/HDMI cable (whatever you've used) into the graphics card and not the motherboard slot, that would be my first guess

So, at the back of the computer where the motherboard pokes through the metal plate you put in there will be a display port( most likely just a blue vga slot), if you plug your monitor into there it won't work because the computer will default to displaying the image through the graphics card if you have one installed
