Hello All,

I currently have 2 NVidia GTX460's installed in my gaming computer, (non SLI), and recently purchased an EVGA GTX760 4GB card to replace the 460's. I have never been inside a computer to do such a task before and was wondering how one knows where to hook what wires to with what connector(s) once I have removed the 460's.

Question: Is this something I can do or should I leave it up to the IT guy?

It doesn't look that complicated. I understand one must be certain to shed static electricity and to use hospital cleanliness while performing the task.....

Thanks,

Scott

it's pretty simple to do, provided your hardware can support a 760. You need a minimum 500W PSU, and sufficient power connectors to power the card.

The EVGA 4GB GTX 760 requires:
One 8-pin PCI Express power connector or two available 6-pin PCI Express power connectors and one 6-pin PCI Express power connector or two available hard disk power connectors.

If the requirements are met, make sure the system is off and unplugged, dispel all static electricity (touching something metal), loosen the necessary screws and disconnect the cards from the system and replace it with the GTX 760, tighten the screw up, connect the necessary power cables and you're good to go. All you...

1. Turn off computer and power supply.
2. Ground yourself.
3. Unplug all connections from each video card to the power supply and displays.
4. Unscrew each video card from bracket, and gently remove each video card.
5. Place new video card on motherboard.
6. Attach 6 pin and 8 pin connections to respective locations on the video card.
7. Screw video card to bracket.
8. Connect displays to video card.

The only wire(s) is the 6 pin power connector(s) you will need from the power supply directly to the end of GPU. The card will work as soon as you turn your system back on, however you should go to NVidia's site and get and install their newest driver for this card before you attempt to play any games. The driver you get with your card will work fine, but it is not likely the newest driver available. Make sure to completely uninstall the old driver before you install the new one!
