Hello everyone. I am in the process of upgrading parts for my computer. It is used for gaming and the occasional netflix, mostly for gaming. I am currently looking for a new Mobo and CPU preferably $300 or less.

Currently I am running an AMD FX-8120 with a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 Mobo. I have no real preference on AMD or Intel, whichever one will do what I need it to do.

As far as CPU goes I was looking at replacing mine with the Core i5-3350p.

I don't know if I should keep what I have and just upgrade my current mobo since some people have told me it's a bad mobo, or just go ahead and upgrade mobo and cpu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also if this is needed, the GPU I am running is the HIS IceQ X2 Radeon R9 270X. I only mention this because if my current CPU/Mobo are bottle necking my GPUs performance I really want to get a new Mobo and CPU.

Solution
For $300 you won't really see any performance gains, but you can get a nice 8320 and overclock it. Overclocked it'll be like an 8350, which would be a good gain.

And you are definitely not bottlenecking, no worries there.

If I went with the 8320 should I go ahead and get a new mobo if I plan on over clocking?

I don't believe your CPU is holding you back with ONLY a single 270X.......... (I believe the i5-3350p might actually be a slight downgrade for you)

If you swap CPU/Motherboard, don't forget you'll need another copy of Windows 7/8 (no, you can't reuse is unless its a full retail version...)

At FPS your getting with a 270X, you'll MAX ad 3 or 4 FPS with an i7-4770K... (5--10% best case)

For a significant upgrade get a new GPU, you can easily DOUBLE your FPS..... if you have enough for a 290X or GTX780...

Ok everyone. Thanks for the info. I think I will just go ahead and save up a couple grand and just splurge. By that time I am sure all kinds of new things will be out.

That's the spirit! Just wanted to make sure your money is well spent, I hate seeing people spend $400-$500 on upgrades to see basic improvement.
