I currently have a 2tb HDD that has everything on it, including win 7. I want to be able to keep my data from my steam games, like skyrim saves, and mods while using an ssd for just win7 and as a boot drive. If I put my ssd in my first drive bay and my HDD in my second. What would I have to do next. Step by step instructions are appreciated! I know I sound bad but I appreciate when someone lends a hand to a newbie!

Hello... I always just hook up the New drive and not the Old Drive... Load Windows and drivers for your Mb and hardware... When Windows does all you want and all hardware works... Then I hook up my old drive to transfer programs/files.

I always download all the latest drivers first for your MB, LAN, Audio, Video card, etc, On a USB stick, for quick fast Install.

When your down, download and install steam. often you can just point it to the download location on the old HDD and it will pick up most of your games. Alternately you can look into using steam mover to move your games too.

Most other programs would need to be reinstalled as they write data in places like the registry and users appdata folders.

Lastly you have the paid option of using paragons move os to ssd app and that will just move windows to the new drive. I don't like recommending a paid program but it actually works and there is no free alternative that I am aware of.

Of course a clean install is best especially if you have years of accumulated crud in your system.
