Update the bios without the CPU or will it work enough?

Getting this mobo
GA-78LMT-USB3
And some people say it needs a bios update to work with the CPU I wish, (8320,6300) but how do I update the Bios of the board to where it will work with the CPU even though it needs to be updated to support them, will it work enough to flash the bios or will I need to purchase a cheap am3 CPU,flash bios then add the 8320/6300?

I am unsure about gigabyte but many motherboard manufacturers will send you an updated bios chip for a minimal fee or even free (much cheaper then buying a cheap cpu). You may wish to contact the motherboard manufacturer prior to purchase to see if this is an option.

I think that this monos bios chip is soldered to the board so would I have to unsolder? If so that's not a problem. And gigabyte is 2nd in the mobo market I believe, so I'd say it would be free. But thanks for the reply.

That depends on what revision of the board is many companys make same board but diffrent revisions

before purchasing contact your seller and make sure its revision rev 5 this does not need any bios update simple plug in and play.
GA-78LMT-USB3 (rev. 5.0)

I have never heard of a company ever sending out a free processor lol.

and if you can afford it get a better board a fx 6300 and a GA-970A-UD3P best
or if on a tighter budget
GA-970A-DS3P

these boards are all simple plug in and play no bios upgrading nonsense

970 series occ better then board you have mentioned

Or you can do an SPI flash, where serial data is sent directly into the BIOS chip, bypassing the CPU and not even requiring the motherboard to be powered.

Well it's rev 3 based on what people on amazon say ( mid December purchases a rev 5) and I'm listed by size , Ive got a 350d case from corsair and it has a window, I want something that looks good and good performance, it's either that board and a 8320 for allot of web browsing, gaming and game recording, or a pentium g3220 until I can upgrade with a z87 gigabyte board. But this would give me more performance right now. Do you think it's possible to push the 8320 to 4ghz on this board? Some people said they've over locked a 125 w 1095t on here to 4.5 but I've yet to see proof. Since rev 5 is plug and play, should I gown that he 8320 and this board or the ga-z87mx-d3h and a haswell pentium?

Awesome thanks! And I was planning on getting the 8 core because I'll be recording games and video editing and I don't want it to affect the performance much plus the video rendering should be faster right?

i wouldnt try occing 8 core on the revision 5 due to fact that while it could occ a 6 core 2 extra cores cause problems it probly wont handle the extra power draw well and its more recomended to use a 970 chipset or higher with 8 series

the fx 6300 on the other hand will work well and is alot cooler then the phenom 125w processors so you wont get heat issues

its max operating temp is round 61c with aftermarket cooling expect to be idling round the 28-32 region at stock when gaming or rendering round 45c occed round 55c should be your goal to keep it round here these temps i base of my old fx 8120 which is considered hotter then the piledriver revision so you may get even better temps especially with a 6 core.

heres some benchmarks to drive my point home on how much the 8 core is hyped very few games are using all 8 cores bf4 being only one i could comment is at present

I wouldn't be overclocking with the 8 core, but I wanted the extra cores because I'll be playing games at 1440x900 ,skyping ,recording at 720p and running a second screen (1366x768 for web browsing and hosting skype window) so you think the 6300 would hold up with the right gpu without dropping too many frames (about 10 max?)

yeah you may need the 8 core for all that what os are you using as the fx series favours windows 8 for best performance as windows 7 doesnt really share the information well with the cores due to the module core design.

well it makes the fx line run smoother example all cores will be used properly
and get roughly 10 to 15 percent better or more score

the issue with windows 7 is it didnt pass information to the 7 and 8 core mine was practically doing squat

Ahh okay , thanks allot for your help, is this motherboard steady for stock clocks on the 8320? I don't want any issues as this will be my first build. I'm upgrading from a laptop with a pentium T4400 and I really don't want to be drawn back by CPU like I have been... Thanks again

whats your entire budget for a motherboard

Budget is not a problem, it's looks and form factor. M-ATX with all black board. This is the only one I've found

yeah its probly only black board youll find thats decent there is a issue of ram though max speed youll get 1333mhz ram to work
as it says only supports 1333mhz by occing

We'll I have 2400. MHz, I was told it would downclock it to 1066 or 1333. And rev 5 can get 1600 by overclocking, could I just place the timing that the ram is recommended for and get the 2400mhz? It's cas11 ( a data XPG gaming v2 from newegg for 89.99)

doubt it the motherboard will down clock it to what it can go too to be stable and 1600mhz i really doubt that max youll see is 1333mhz as going higher will damage the dim slots due to voltage
