Which rig should I roll with? X79 or Z87

I'm going to be recording videos, and hoping for medium-fast render times, I will do GFX work i.e Photoshop, Premiere, C4D, etc.

The 4930K is worth the extra cash in your case, because lots of programs in your line of work can use all 6 cores. It wouldn't be worth it for a gaming machine. Based on the 780 Ti, you are going to play games on this too. You decide if the box will be used mostly for work or mostly for games.

Both would do a good job, the X79 will be better overall with the additional cores, but will also want DRAM in a 4x config - if 16GB 4x4GB or go 32GB in 4x8GB to enable and use quad channel, which will greatly help in the proposed work for the rig

Will the extra $200 be worth it? I'm only a young person in high school, so I can't fully take advantage of the pc, and if Haswell-E does get released, should I just go with that instead? I am building this Mid-this year

Haswell is due prob around the third/fourth quarter, haven't seen anything firm on pricing

btw you picked mostly the top of the line parts

you can save much if you select only the best price/performance component. $1200-1500 is what i expected

okay, then you have done a very good work

swap the SSD into Samsung 840 pro 256-512GB because those programs you listed above take so much space. it will be ridiculous if you have to install it outside the SSD

Ah okay, thanks. I think i'll be going with the Z87, i'm not the most enthusiastic person about GFX, so it'll only be a side job
