I cant seem to decide, since each side has its pros and cons.
They struck in with a $5 difference.
I will get either a r7 260x or r9 270 as my gpu.
The new apu(ill overclock it) has the hsa and the possibility for 260x dual graphics.
The i5 is still a very great cpu, and is still unmatched in gaming.
I can get decent boards for each cpu for around $70-80.
Ps I game on a 1440x900 monitor, so im guessing a significant boost vs 1080p.

While the obvious choice for many is the i5, i cant help but feel the a10 will surprise me later. The Amd option includes free bf4 (included with the motherboard) and the mantle.

So with all my confusion id like to have a "third party" opinion.

Danke!

You can go with a Fx8320 but in games that are less optimized for multicore CPUs such as AC4 or Skyrim, the AMD processors will suffer bad. I sent back 2 AMD FX processors (FX6300 and FX8350) because they were performing so poorly in AC4 and Skyrim, even with a GTX 780. I would only recommend AMD if you had a low budget and your only intel option was an i3. Seeing that you have the option for a i5, go with the i5.

I recommend the i5 with discrete graphics. The per core performance that Intel has just trumps AMD's per core performance. If you have the option to go for Intel, I would recommend that you do so.

i planned to at first get the 6350, but then i realized i wanted the speed of intels threads, the fastest amd cpu is the 6800k and its only 75% of the speed of the haswell threads, but i still considered it as an option, seeing how the 7850k performs similarly at stock clocks i decided the 7850k is still a decent option, especially compared to my laptop and temporary computer. and if i get the 7850k and a 260x id try to use it in dual graphics to confirm for the forum it that may be possible.

the i5 4570 is currently $185 and the apu is $190. on the passmark benchmark single core, the i5 was around 2.2k while ith 6800k was near 1.6k

yea so im going i5 and 270x, now i just need a small case, i kinda hate the big ones, and my old dell optiplex sx270 requires too much case modding. im using 1440x900 btw, nearly half the pixel count of 1080p so like a 15-40% boost.

alternatively you can get an 8 core fx 8320 and overclock it along with a 270x.

I have over 100 hours on bf4 so far, trust me, you aren't missing much...it's still a buggy mess, netcode/hit detection is crap on it, had over 1000 hours roughly on BF3 and vasty prefer it to bf4

With the a10 you get a lot more than just performance. Unlike the i5 you get better stock gpu performance, the ability to hybrid crossfire. Pci express 3.0 support and upgrade path to the next generation of apu that will use the same socket. Not to mention mantle support. Core for core performance the i5 wins, but sheer value is the key amd is aiming for. Just the a10 is almost equal to the i5 on the cpu side but the a10-7850k takes the cake with its igpu and huma/hsa and a better instruction set than the i5.

They both have pcie 3.0 and the hsa support isnt implemented in most things yet, and i wont need to upgrade anytime soon with a i5, id upgrade in 4-5 years
