Hi all, I'm having trouble--no sound--with my new build.

MSI Z87-G45 Gaming MB
i5-4430
2x2GB DDR3 G.Skill memory modules
MSI GTX 660
Windows 7 Ultimate

When I go to Sound, Windows Audio Services are turned off. Windows prompts to turn them on, I do, and when I go to Playback Devices, I can see the Nvidai HDMI outputs from the graphics card, and the Realtek Speakers and Digital Audio devices from the MB, but if I try and do anything with them (like set as default or configure) after about 3-5 seconds they all vanish and in the playback window it will suddenly say "No audio devices are installed." (the same is true if I look in the Recording devices window). I can do this over and over again--they're "there" after starting Windows Audio Services, but when you try and do something, they vanish.

I have updated my Realtek Audio drivers with the latest ones from the MSI website (Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.7111) but still no joy. I'd love to hear any suggestions :)

Solution
Figured it out: a device conflict with "Microsoft High Definition Audio Device." I uninstalled the Realtek Drivers, and then the Microsoft High Definition Audio Device showed up, and sound worked. So I disabled and then uninstalled the Microsoft High Definition Audio Device under Device Manager>System, reinstalled the Realtek drivers, and now it is all running swimmingly :)

Have you tried the audio jacks on the actual motherboard, or just the ones on your case. I believe the GD45 uses Sound Blaster cinema from creative, you probably need to find drivers for that, not just realtek ones.

@ProWilma: Yes I have tried both the front jacks on the panel, and the I/O jacks on the back of the MB. The same "vanishing devices" behavior happens in both.
@johnnyp23: I'll try that too :)

Thank you both for responding.
