new to pc gaming (resident evil 5 freezing)

here is my setup

Intel i5 670 cpu
Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 oc video card

nothing is overclocked

when I run resident evil it gives me the option to choose to run directx9 or 10

when I run 10...nine times out of ten the game freezes about 10 seconds into gameplay.

What causes this?

My temperatures are fine.

Well I am new to pc gaming so I don't have many games. The only game I have played is warframe off of steam and that played without any problems, and then resident evil (which I have on a disc)

the directx9 version of resident evil (when you choose right at the beginning) worked without freezing, but when I run the directx10 version, it usually freezes.

I was able to play it once without it freezing, but every other time it did.

Im sure, when I got the card I went to the amd website and installed the drivers/catalyst for the card and that was only like a couple weeks ago.

Now, google is showing that a directx10 crash problem with this game may be common and a certain windows update will prob need to be uninstalled.

several hits came up when I googled this problem.
