I have a XFX 5850, been working fine for a couple of years now without overclocking suddenly stopped working a few months back. After I turn the PC on it won't even boot up then when I tried to replace it with a much lower end card computer starts to work fine. Can't check for actual temps on the card because it won't even boot the PC when it's in use. Any clues to as what might have happened? Is my card dead? After I tried it on different PC same issue happens, can't even start up any PC. PCB gets really hot after few minutes upon checking. No OC on any of my components. Any advise would be really a great help. Thanks guys

It is most likely broken and there is little you can do. Maybe - and that's quite a maybe - you could try to bake it in your oven to resolder everything. Look it up on Google, but from experience I'd say that it's dead. If it would still function it would show an image before overheating which would express itself by artifacts.

Likely scenario is that the fan is dead, that's probably why it's so hot. Don't try the baking method, there's like a 1% chance of reviving card without actually damaging it. If it's still under warranty, try to RMA it but otherwise, it looks like you need a new card.

does the gpu fan turn on?? a lot of gpu if the fan fails wont turn on. if it not the fan then look at the back of the card and see if there any burnt or discolored parts. most times it a cap or vrm that fails on the video card. your vendor at one time had life time warranty on there video cards. before you try anything that will void that try there online rma or call them. you may be able to get a newer card for just the cost of mailing the old card back in under a rma number.

GPU fan is on and it looks pretty much normal when I look at it and no unnecessary noise. No burnt or discolored parts, actually it's hard to tell given that the PCB is black all over. I guess "dead" is the proper description for my card now, it's out of warranty for almost 2 years now, it's just so sudden that it died without any sign. So there's really nothing I can do to revive it in any way? Thanks for all the feedback
