At present I'm only using a single 1080 display to play things like league of legends so my single gigabyte gtx670 OC 4GB is more than enough.

When I move in aprox 6-8 months time I will be upgrading to a tripple monitor setup,

As such I was considering adding a 2nd card,
My current card is quite overpriced at the moment considering the existence of the 770 so i was considering buying another brand of 4gb 670 2nd hand. As i understand it the OC card will lower its clock speed to match the other card.

My question is, would it be easy to overclock a stock card to match the OC card, and would this be safe on stock cooling?

Aslo does anyone see any false economies here? I'm assuming they are not making any more 670 cards to they won't become more common/cheaper?

The card should get cheaper in 8months time so I think you will be good with buying another one to put in SLI.
You can overclock the card just make sure everything is stable and the temperatures are no higher then 85 degrees when on load as any higher will make the card starts throttling down.
As you can see the GPU can handle upto 97 degrees C, but I wouldn't recommend going above 85 degrees C http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-670/specifications

Hope this helped :)

Fair point, though you might get better visibility of team mates in other lanes/jungle. But I will be intending to play HD moded skyrim and others on the tripple monitor setup, im just saving them for then. so im trying to decide if a 2nd card is worth buying now or later.

What makes you think it will be cheaper in 8 months? I think the low supply, and the ammount of people like me wanting a 2nd card is keeping the price high, (does this always happen?), but I don't know if they are making any more in future or if they are only producing the 700 series?

I build my pc with silence in mind, the air cooling on the PSU/CPU/GPU, are actually quieter than water cooling, but my case has plenty of room for water cooling if needed later. (Nanoxia deep silence 2)
