Hello all,

My homebuilt system has suddenly crashed and fails to reboot.

What happened?
I was playing a low end game, nothing special. No heat issues as the room was air conditioned.

Computer suddenly froze and made a buzzing type sound.

I had to press reset button to restart.

Upon restart, computer failed to pass POST and would power up for 1/2 a second and then fail, power down for about 5 seconds and repeat this cycle until I flick the PSU switch.

What have I done?
CMOS battery reset - Fail
Unplug GPU - Fail
Power SW - switched with the reset button - Failed to do anything.
Power SW - Shored the switch with a screwdriver, same results.
Reset SW - unplugged - Made no difference.

Strangely I removed the RAM and the computer would power up for a longer period of time, but still fail and cycle again. I do not have a case speaker so I can not hear any beeps.

Also I switched up the RAM and made no difference.

Any help would be much appreciated. I am beginning to think that the CPU HFS powercord may have dislodged, but I thought the protection would have kicked in to save the CPU.

I am thinking PSU, CPU or Motherboard. Although I am starting to think that it is either PSU or CPU. However I have no way of confirming if it is the PSU as I have no tools.

Also, I unplugged everything from the PSU except the GPU and MB, still failed.

Any help in layman's terms would be much appreciated.

Update: Found a returned MB and started up so hopefully Win7 can repair and resart as I have added the SSD with the OS and it failed to launch, but at least BIOS loaded.

Looks like it is MB.

Write down your build here :D

if you have 2 sticks of ram, try booting with just one. See if that helps.
