Purchased the following parts to build a computer to be used for drafting. I know that I could have gotten better components but I am kind of strapped to XP because of the software programs I’m forced to use. So all of these components were researched to make sure they will work with XP.

Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 Ivy Bridge 3.2GHz (3.6GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2500

Video card: MSI N660 Gaming 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 660 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card

Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G41 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Hard drive: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"

Hard drive #2: Seagate 500 gb, 7200 RPM SATA 6.0 GB/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL

Power Supply: EVGA 100-W1-500-KR 500W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified

DVD Burner: SAMSUNG DVD Burner

Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite White Steel with painted interior ATX Mid Tower

So on to the problem.
I am loading Windows 7 onto the WD hard drive, no problem there. That will be done later. Right now I’m trying to get XP onto the Seagate drive. Over the past few years I have had to install XP on numerous computers for work and it just keeps getting harder and harder. Now I’m building a computer for myself and it’s just not working.
I changed the SATA setting in the BIOS from AHCI to IDE, put the XP SP1 disk in, boot from the DVD drive. XP starts loading the setup then right before it gets to the point where it asks where you want XP installed I get a blue screen.
I also did create a slipstream XP install disk using the XP AHCI SATA controller drivers that are on the MSI MB driver disk. In fact I created about 8 of them using every driver that is on there, blue screen every time. I’ve had to do this before when installing XP on a newer computer and it worked but not for this one.
According to the manual on MSI’s site, the instructions they give are to switch the Sata setting from AHCI to IDE which as you can see above I did or to make a floppy disk with the SATA controller driver on it and F6 during XP install setup & manually pick the driver. I have not done this only because I do not have a floppy drive. I’d prefer not to have to purchase one.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I've never used a floppy drive, just loaded the SATA driver off a flash drive or DVD. 2 things. if you can slipstream the driver you should slipstream service pack 3 in. if you can load xp to the western digital you could just clone it to the Seagate later but it sounds more like a damaged drive.

should run memtest first of course memory can cause this. I've even had a DVD drive cause itvonce , just didn't like reading the disks. swapped it and all was fine

I tried loading the drivers off of a flash drive, that was not working either.

All I own is a XP SP1 disk. I was thinking about trying to use SP3 but I can't track one down.

The WD drive I received was DOA. I should be getting the new one tonight and I was going to try loading XP on that drive.

I was thinking that the Seagate drive might be damaged so I put in a Win 7 pro install disk. It started installing with no problems so I'm thinking it's just something not liking XP.
