Hi Guys I'm building my very first gaming rig very soon yay!
Mainly for watching hd movies/mild editing but mostly gaming (minimal or mid overclock 4ghz maybe)
I'm still a beginner so please help me choose.
Here are the components for my rig
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K Haswell
Motherboard: MSI Z87M Gaming
RAM: Gskill RipjawsX 8GB Dual 1866 CL9
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB. But I will be adding another Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB sooner or later
SSD: Samsung 840 evo 250GB for upgrade
Chassis: NZXT Source 210 Window / CoolerMaster N300 / Raidmax Super Altas / or better cases
Cpu Cooler: maybe a Cooler Master TPC812
GPU: Either Zotac 770 Amp! (want to SLI/Crossfire in the future if possible)
or Sapphire Vapor X R9-280x
Anyway this are the prices of the PSU's here in the Philippines
( sadly $160 is my budget limit
)
FSP AU-850PRO AURUM PRO 850W 80Plus Gold Modular for $157.812
or
Seasonic X-750 750W 80PLUS Gold (Modular) for $144.48
or should I buy a 1000w PSU right away?
i think Aerocool Strike-X 1100w PSU 80Plus Gold for $146.28 cause its Red and Black
or stick to a lower cost bronze Psu for a much better chassis maybe
XFX ProSeries 850W xxx Edition Modular for $124.113
I thank you all in advance!

Why such a massive PSU? You could just get a 600-650W instead. If I had to choose I'd definitely get the Seasonic one.
(Hell, I'll bring you one from Taiwan...gonna be vacationing in Palawan in 3 weeks. Hell yeah..sorry had to throw that in)
Can you invest in a better case? I mean those cases are kinda low side cuz cabling is bad. Any Corsair Cases there?

well I want a massive psu for future SLI / Crossfire maybe and for upgrades like addition of storage and other stuff. so the least I want is a 750w Psu. hmmmm corsair cases huh. uhm CORSAIR CARBIDE 300R fits my budget

I love the 300R. Great cooling for a hot climate.
If you are really considering 2 GPUs then 850W is a better choice. But 2 x R9-280X is only good for 3 monitors or 2560x1400 gaming. Is that your plan?

hmmm yes my plan is kinda like that but it will take some time and tons of work before I achieve that.

If you want good cooling then look for something like the 300R. It can have 2 front fans, 2 top fans, 2 side fans, 1 rear fan. I like the extra cooling and need it to keep my GPU running at an acceptable temp. Obviously, with any case, you'll need to add extra fans. I have my 300R with 2 front fans, 1 top, and 1 rear. Once summer hits we'll see if I have to install any side fans. But cooling is important for us tropical people.
If you are really thinking SLI then get a 850-900W PSU, nothing less. btw, the 770 consumes less power than the 280x.

I would get the XFX just because of the price savings, the Gold rating will not pay back the price difference in the lifetime of the computer on saved electricity.850watt is plenty for a dual card setup.
rolli59 said:
Yes absolutely it can deliver 850watts to the components.oh and about the gold and bronze certified thingy. well the electricity here is quite high due to the electricity rate price hike. is gold and bronze really not that different?

Bronze 85% at 50% load so if it is delivering 500watts to the components it is pulling roughly 588 watts from the wall.
Same with Gold 90% at 50% so at 500watts it is roughly 555 watts from the wall.
Difference is 33 watts which means it has to run just over 30hrs on that load to save 1KWh which is the unit most people pay for their electricity by. Your average load will be less.

I totally agree the more airflow in the case the better. well I always like games with high graphics and stuff and would really like to try a multi monitor build. hmmm i know I'm struggling a bit about those two also. but given the r9 280x has almost a $100ish lower price than 770 and performs "almost" the same as a 780 would. also the i'm kinda looking forward to the "ZeroCore" of AMD cause sometimes maybe I'll just end up surfing the net or let it sit for downloading files.

yeah you can't go wrong with that FSP unit either, i think it is their best platform. The advantage of seasonic is you don't have to ship your psu overseas when it fails while in FSP you only have 3 years of local warranty and after that you need to ship the psu to taiwan. 7 years local warranty on Seasonic vs 5 years warranty on FSP (3 years local, 2 years-ship to taiwan)

In case your curious. I like to calculate wattage to be safe. I use this:
http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/
then add a little more to be safe.

Well. because that product is by order basis only and they don't have a real sample.
and I think I'll just drop the sli for now just going for a single vapor x r9 280x.
I think I'm gonna go with the Seasonic X-650 650W 80PLUS Gold (Modular) it's $119.815 only
Is this enough for my rig(mild oc)? and for it's future storage additions , more fans and 2 more ram upgrades?
what do you guys think?
