Last night I got my Rosewill Thor V2, so I decided to put the parts that I currently have in it. I have an RMA on my Corsair TX750 currently, so I have everything but my powersupply. This is the first time I put the parts in myself, I was in a carpeted room with white boards lain down for my parts, but I was on the rug. Would the static cause my motherboard any problems? I don't really have any way of testing it until my power supply comes in.

I'm always a critic when it comes to hardware safety. I've got a buddy of mine that works on computers with me, and he's so abusive that he's literally taken a motherboard smothered in cigarette ashes and dust to use for a machine. And the thing booted! I've even seen him get impatient and bend motherboards slightly while he was taking it in and out of the case. The reason I say this is your hardware can take a very "slight" beating.

I've done computer work on wood floors, carpeted floors, etc. I've never encountered an issue where parts shorted out on me. Just be sure to rub your hands on something metal to get the shock out of your hands. You never know what can happen. Be sure to use anti-static wrist straps, and always take your...

Never rush, and all should be well.

If you never felt a shock when touching the motherboard, you should be fine. For future reference, if at all possible, do not stand on a rug when working on computer internals. Whether you can or can't get into the habit of ALWAYS touching a metal component of the case (drive bay, case edge) before reaching into it to handle a component.

During the process I never heard any zaps nor did I ever feel the slightest of shock. I just feel paranoid because it's the first time I put the parts in myself and I wanted to do it right. I just read a lot that shock usually interferes with the motherboard. I think it'll be alright. Again, just me being paranoid. Not necessarily a bad thing. Haha

Its always good to have that bit of fear in the back of your head. You never want to cut corners in any kind of way when it comes to building a unit. I've always been like that with every build that I've done, my friend. Don't worry, you'll be fine.
