I also run other games like fall out 3, fallout new vegas, but skyrim is the most demanding. i currently have a lenovo z585 with an Amd A10 with a integrated Amd redeon HD7760 grahpics card. I am building my own desktop so any help on the kind of mother board, cpu, ram, etc, that i should buy would be great.

thank you all for your help. i have a graphics card picked out, (link a the bottom) I now need to find a processor, AMD preferably. Any Ideas?

Hey there, you mentioned you're building a full system. What's your budget for the whole system and what do you have so far?

Starcraft really needs a combination of a good CPU and GPU. It runs great on an i5 3570k @4.2 with a 760 on Medium settings, this is probably the most optimal setting, although a mate runs it just as good with the same processor and a 7770, again on Medium settings.

You don't need the greatest computer to run SC2, but don't expect to run it on High settings without a little tweaking to graphics options (some settings affect CPU more than others), because when lots of units are on screen, that's when the CPU will need as much power as possible.

my budget is 650$ for the entire thing. I cant afford intel, i myself prefer amd. I went to my local frys store and they helped me put together a budget desktop. i dont currently have the money for it but i am planning ahead. My friend says that the nvidia gtx 680 is better than the gtx 760. i dont know alot about graphics cards, is he right?

He's right, the 680 is better than a 760 (the 770s are essentially rebranded 680s) but you still won't be able to get competitive FPS with a cheaper processor on higher detail settings.

Out of curiosity, what did the people at Fry's recommend for a processor?

also as a note I've never seen any desire to play SC2 on higher than low, the high graphical settings on it contain too much distraction from sick apm man.

I'm also curious to see this suggested build.
