Ebay factory warrantees

Solution
A manufacturer's warranty may or may not be valid. It just depends. For example, Samsung does not honor their manufacturer's warranty if the ebay seller or any retailer for that matter is not a Samsung authorized reseller/vendor. Most, but not quite all, ebay sellers are not Samsung authorized resellers or vendors.

There is another odd situation. We've had several previous threads asking about purchasing new and used ssd's on ebay. In one of the threads a forum member provided a link to a brand new Samsung ssd offered on ebay. When I looked at the listing I noticed that the model number, product number, and SKU did not appear to be quite right. It took a few hours but using the identification data I managed to track the ssd to Dell. It was part of a bulk purchase of Samsung OEM ssd's manufactured specifically for Dell. They were meant to be installed in computers sold by Dell. In this case neither Samsung nor Dell warranties applied.

NOTA BENE - SSD's meant for retail sale sometimes come with extras like data migration software, a SATA cable, a CD-ROM disc, a mounting bracket, or maybe even a game. In addition, customers can also purchase just the ssd with no extras. Forum members sometimes refer to the latter as OEM versions. They are not OEM versions. They are simply retail versions without any extras. The extras are omitted to reduce the retail price of the ssd.
