lost connection to the Internet. Computer can't identify a router.

this morning I lost connection to the Internet. In my Network and Sharing Center, it says I am connected to an unidentified public network.

I have tried reinstalling network drivers, and reconnecting with my router software. The router software and network Sharing Center troubleshooting both seem to think I am NOT connected to the router. All connections are secured though.

I am fairly inexperienced with networks and routers. Please provide any advice with that in mind.

I just unplugged the network cable from what I'm fairly confident is the Realtek port and into what I think is the Intel port, at least, that's how my Network connections page shows them. I'm able to connect to the web now through this port, but I'm wondering what happened with the original port I've been connected to this last year that caused it to stop working, and if it can be repaired somehow?

It could have simply been that the cable wasn't firmly/fully inserted. Could also be dust in the port. Stranger things have happened.

If the port (adapter) is bad, you would have to RMA the motherboard for replacement/repair (assuming still under warranty). If you have a working connection now, I wouldn't worry too much about it though.

My connection went down again today. I'm still using the second Intel port. I think my connection problems are a bit deeper than a dirty port or something like that. I've noticed that other devices in my apartment can connect without any problems.

hey i know this thread is old but i have the exact same problem currently and i did have an electeical suge the night before that licked it off. any suggestions?
