A Tale of Two Harddrives...

The Toshiba hdd that I'm using now has been flipping out occasionally (clicking, grinding, slow system, busy light always on...) Anyway, I keep running chkdsk /r and switching the hdds power connector and moving sata cables around to different ports and it seems to work fine again for days-weeks-months. I have a new WD hdd on its way now.

ANYWAY, TO GET TO THE MEAT: In a few days, I'll have 2 hdds. My old Toshiba that is currently functional but erratic at times AND my new WD Caviar 1TB. With the old hdd flipping out, I'm not sure if any RAID set ups interest me, but I don't want to simply trash my old hdd. What are some rational set up options I could go with to still use my old Toshiba hdd? I've been considering putting the OS on the new hdd and just using the old hdd for storage to at least lessen its workload to some degree. Maybe one of the RAID options WOULD be right. Give me some opinions.

Personally speaking, I would not trust any of my critical data on that particular drive - queue the egg throwing!

Options:

1. Use as scratch drive - location of temp files/folders etc.
2. Stripe the drive with another for testing purposes.
3. Use as media storage for the transfer of files/folders between computers (requires a case).
4. Create a .VHD and use it for other purposes, i.e. mount the .VHD and run an OS on it etc.
5. Crack open the drive and watch the platters spin up and the heads move across the disks - my favourite.

That's all I got.
