How worried should I be?

I accidentally touched some power cables to parts of my motherboard that shouldn't be touched by power cables (I know I should have turned it off first:no:) and there was a flash of light and everything turned off. It wouldn't turn on again at the time and I thought it was broken, but now a few hours later it seems to be working fine. Can I assume that it's fine and the mobo's intrinsic safety features saved it, or is this likely to be more serious? I thought I might need to replace a fuse or something, but if it's now working doesn't that mean everything's connected up fine?

Thanks for any help.

If I had to guess, I'd say you touched the end of a mile 12 to a ground. Quick flash, possible mobo detection and fail safe shutdown. Yes just keep an eye on things for a while. You should be fine to run your computer.

flash of light is never a good sign. can you see any physical difference/damage to any of the components? where was the flash, what piece did you touch? If you booted again and all your numbers are fine; voltages, clock speeds, temps, etc. that is a good sign.

Thanks for the reply.

I can't see any damage and all the numbers seem fine. I don't really know what parts I touched because it was the back of the motherboard and honestly I wasn't really looking at them, just trying to get all my cables spread flat enough for me to put the side of the case back on. If I had to take a guess I'd say it was probably the general area of the cpu, but I really don't know.

It sounds like I should be keeping an eye on things but I can just keep using it as normal?
