Will Windows 7 work on these computer (desktop) setups?

Is it worth upgrading the HP desktops we have or purchasing new ones with 7 Pro?

I have a bunch of HP 220MT desktop computers in the office running XP sp3.

The configs on these computers are: XP Pro sp3, 1 or 2GB RAM, 40GB HDD, Intel Celeron with a 2 or 2.4GHz processor. **These computers can only hold a max of 2GB RAM.

We have 1 with Pentium 4 chip, 2.8GHz processor.

I know the HDD have to be replaced with larger and all have to have RAM maxed at 2GB to meet minimum requrirements for Windows 7 Pro with XP Mode.

Purchase new ones. It's not worth upgrading the old ones. They are so old the performance of a $500 PC would eclipse anything that old.

I am hoping to maybe save some $$$ by not having to replace all 17 when most of these are used for strictly data entry purposes, some e-mail and checking information on web sites.

I found Dell Inspiron 660s for $330 on a local retailers web site so I could either have them shipped or pick-up in-store.
Intel Celeron G1620 Processor 2.7GHz
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)
4GB DDR3-1600 SDRAM
500GB 7,200RPM Hard Drive

if the performance on xp is satisfactory to you,then indeed max the ram out on these machines and put bigger hard drives in if necessary.win7 will run on these and be at least as fast as xp if not faster.been there done that.

Find a PC reseller with some used Core 2 Duo business systems should be about $200 for a system with 4 gig of RAM and about a 160gig or larger hard drive. Although if that $330 if it includes a legal Windows Pro license, is not that bad of a deal if it's a new system.

Newegg tends to sell those.
