Hard drive clicking, can it be recovered?

Hello! My dad's hard drive recently failed. It's a Samsung HD502HJ (internal). It just quit one day (complete computer freeze up), and fails to show up in the BIOS. Connecting it to my computer via SATA to USB cable doesn't make a difference. This is the sound it makes: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0a6T0uRnYeH

Any idea how to save this drive? or at least save it's data.

there are professional data recovery outfits out there but they are very expensive so unless there is some really important data on that drive i would replace the drive and reinstall windows.

The "clicking" you are hearing are the heads banging on the case from not being aligned properly. You have about zero chance of recovering any of the data unless you take it to a professional shop - as they will have to disassemble the drive in a clean room, and attempt to realign the heads to recover data from the drive.

Data recovery software will not help if the drive is not seen in the bios. I believe the donor drive option that I linked above is you best option.
